New Feature: LOST & FOUND

In the right sidebar, I have added a new feature where you can report anything lost or found.  Has your dog or cat run away?  Lost an item during your walks around the neighborhood.  Or have you found any of these and want to return them to their owner?  To report any lost and found, just call your blog master at 910-233-4710 or email me at david@ladyslippercove.com.  I will promptly add the item in the LOST & FOUND section.  Please also notify me when you have resolved the situation, so I can remove it from the list.  For this section to work efficiently, everyone in the neighborhood must check the blog frequently.  When you have lost or found something, state what it is, your address, and your phone number.

Just found this blog, very cool. You all had a meeting recently about the gate to the soccer field and I wanted to comment about that. Will you be posting an entry about that issue soon?

Yes, Kurt, a number of residents in the Picadilly gate area attended the monthly board meeting this past Saturday expressing their opinions on the matter of the gate. Several suggestions were made, most of which involve police or fire departments of the City of Wilmington. Ann Smith contacted Randall Glazier of the City Traffic Engineering department, on Monday. Mr. Glazier will be coming on site to Victoria Place to assess the problem first hand. So action has started.

If you would like to leave a comment here with your opinion on the matter, please do so, as this is an open forum.

Let us all remember that the Piccadilly Court issue is a PARKING issue, not a "gate issue" as it has often been characterized. The documented evidence of the severity of the problem is that safety vehicles (fire trucks, EMTs) could not get through the mouth of Piccadilly with parking on both sides.
The solution seems so obvious that I wonder if something else is going on here! Sinply paint the curbs at the mouth yellow and post two "No Parking Fire Lane" signs. If we cannot get the city to allow this solution to a pressing safety issue, then we are not going to get them to do anything for us, let alone enforce "community parking rules." If it can be shown to be a real safety issue, the No Parking signs could be, and should be, enforced.

If people really think eliminating the gate (or building a second "containment" fence) is a possible solution it seems absolutely ridiculous to me! That's like banning moter vehicles from the neighborhood because a few people speed! (Which would actually be fine with me!) Lots of residents use the gate, in addition to a few Roland-Grise students. It is a wonderful way to eliminate some of the excess auto traffic in the area by allowing people to cut through the soccer fields on the way to Hoggard, the Senior Center, the Nature Trail next to the Semior Center, and even Hugh NcCrae Park. Just being able to easily leave the neighborhood to enjoy the Green Space was, to me, a great selling point when we purchased a home in the area.
Let's not make a HUGH issue over half a dozen cars parking illegally one day a week during the soccer season!
